Benedictus (Bach arr. Ponniah)

03:36 duration|Composed in 2021|Difficulty: Easy|First performed: July 2021

In this choral setting of Bach’s well-known Air, I chose text that complements Bach’s wonderful harmonic language: starting with the Benedictus, followed by the Agnus Dei (and Crucifixus), and ending with the Benedictus.

Text

Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini.
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.
Agnus Dei, dona nobis pacem.
Crucifixus etiam pro nobis:
Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini.

Blessed is he or she who comes in the name of the Lord.
Lamb of God, who takes away the sings of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, grant us peace.
He was crucified for us:
Blessed is he or she who comes in the name of the Lord.
